Daybreak Schools: The Surprising Way South Jordan Kids End Up in Herriman

by Dallon Smith

Daybreak is a large master-planned community inside South Jordan, with roughly 28,000 residents and its own elementary and middle schools built specifically to serve the neighborhood. But here's the surprise: Daybreak's high schoolers don't attend a South Jordan high school at all. According to Jordan School District's own feeder map, Daybreak falls into the Herriman High School attendance area. If you're working out which schools an address actually feeds into, my Daybreak neighborhood guide pulls the boundaries, schools, HOA details, and current listings together in one place.

Daybreak's Own Elementary Schools

School Grades Address
Daybreak Elementary K-6 4544 Harvest Moon Dr., South Jordan, UT 84009
Eastlake Elementary K-6 4389 W. Isla Daybreak Rd., South Jordan, UT 84009
Golden Fields Elementary K-6 10252 S. Split Rock Drive, South Jordan, UT 84009

Daybreak Elementary alone serves about 1,100 students and has a notable partnership with Kennecott and the University of Utah focused on literacy and inquiry-based learning. Eastlake, true to its name, sits right on Isla Daybreak Road inside the community.

Middle School: Mountain Creek

Most Daybreak students attend Mountain Creek Middle School, at 5325 W. Bingham Rim Road, South Jordan, UT 84009, serving grades 7-9 and still very much a Daybreak-area school.

The High School Surprise: Herriman, Not South Jordan

Here's the part that catches a lot of parents off guard. Per Jordan School District's official schools-by-area map, Daybreak Elementary, Eastlake Elementary, and several neighboring schools all feed into Herriman High School, not a South Jordan high school. Even though Daybreak has a South Jordan mailing address, the actual attendance boundary for high school crosses into the neighboring city. If your family is planning around a specific high school, this is exactly the kind of detail worth confirming before you buy rather than after.

Questions Daybreak Parents Ask Me

Does this mean my kids will always be zoned for Herriman High?
Based on current boundaries, yes, for most of Daybreak. But boundaries can shift as both South Jordan and Herriman continue growing, so it's worth checking Jordan District's boundary tool for your specific address rather than relying on this or any other general guide.

Are there other options if I'd rather my child attend a South Jordan high school?
Depending on the specific address, some parts of South Jordan and Daybreak are zoned for Bingham High instead. It genuinely depends on exactly where in the community you're looking, which is another reason to verify before you buy.

I help Daybreak families sort through exactly this kind of boundary question all the time. If you'd like help confirming what a specific address is zoned for, I'm happy to dig into it with you. Because this boundary straddles two cities, it is worth reading both sides: my South Jordan Schools page and my Herriman Schools page each carry the full school-by-school review. Living in South Jordan covers the rest of the city around Daybreak.
