A Parent's Guide to Bluffdale, Utah Schools
Bluffdale sits at the very southern end of Salt Lake County, right at the Point of the Mountain, and it's grown fast without losing its semi-rural, horse-property character. Because it's a smaller city, the school list is short, but there's more variety packed into it than you'd expect: two brand-new district schools, a language immersion program, and a full K-12 charter network that never requires leaving town. Here’s the complete picture. If you want the boundaries themselves — where each elementary line actually falls and what the Utah County sliver does and does not mean — that is on Which Schools Serve Bluffdale, Utah?. One thing that catches families moving from Draper, Sandy or Cottonwood Heights: those cities are in Canyons School District, which runs K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Jordan District runs K-6, 7-9 and 10-12, so ninth grade here is middle school.
The Short List: Bluffdale Schools at a Glance
| School | Grades | Address |

| Mountain Point Elementary | K-6 | 15345 S. Puma Mountain Way, Bluffdale, UT 84065 |
| Riverton Elementary | K-6 | 13150 S. 1830 West, Riverton, UT 84065 |
| Hidden Valley Middle School | 7-9 | 15410 S. Harmon Day Drive, Bluffdale, UT 84065 |

| Summit Academy High School | 9-12 | 14942 S. 560 West, Bluffdale, UT 84065 |
One school on that list surprises people: if you are buying in the far northeast corner of Bluffdale — roughly north of 14000 South between 800 and 1450 West — your assigned elementary is Riverton Elementary, in Riverton. It is on almost no list of Bluffdale schools, but it is on Jordan District’s boundary map.
Growing Fast: Two Brand-New District Schools
Mountain Point Elementary opened in 2019 and Hidden Valley Middle followed in 2020, both built to keep pace with Bluffdale's rapid growth. Mountain Point focuses on language arts and STEAM education in a newly built facility, while Hidden Valley, located on Harmon Day Drive, serves grades seven through nine in a modern building designed specifically for the city's growing student population.
Bluffdale Elementary's Language Immersion Option
Bluffdale Elementary offers a Portuguese Dual Language Immersion program starting in first grade, along with a full music program and before-school band and orchestra options. It's worth a look even for families outside its immediate boundary, since dual immersion programs in Jordan District sometimes accept transfer students depending on space.
A Full K-12 Charter Path Without Leaving Town
Bluffdale is home to three of Summit Academy’s four campuses, which together make a complete K-12 charter pathway: Summit Academy Bluffdale for grades K-6, Summit Academy Independence for pre-K through 8th grade, and Summit Academy High School for grades 9-12. Bluffdale also has a second, unrelated charter that gets left off most lists: North Star Academy, K-9, at 2920 West 14000 South, with about 522 students. And one private school, Mountain Valley School, at 1224 West 16580 South.
Summit Academy describes itself as a tuition-free public school with the feel of a private school, and the high school enrolled 599 students across grades 9-12 in 2024-25 with a senior class of 128, so it's a genuinely small-school option in a fast-growing area.
Where Bluffdale Teens Go to High School
Riverton High School is the comprehensive public high school serving all of Bluffdale, most of Riverton, and a small eastern slice of Herriman. It sits on a 52-acre campus in neighboring Riverton, about a 10 to 15 minute drive from most Bluffdale addresses. How far that drive feels depends a lot on which part of the city you buy in, which I go through in Buying in Bluffdale, Utah.
Is Part of Bluffdale in Alpine School District?
Bluffdale’s city boundary does cross into Utah County, which is Alpine School District territory, and you will occasionally see the city listed as served by both districts. That is misleading. The Utah County portion is about 419 acres at the far south end of the city, and Utah County’s own parcel records show no primary residences on it at all. Every Bluffdale homeowner is in Jordan School District.
Questions Bluffdale Parents Ask Me
Is it worth choosing Summit Academy over the district schools?
It depends on what your child needs. Summit Academy's small class sizes and K-12 continuity appeal to families who want the same community throughout school; the district schools offer larger extracurricular programs and newer facilities in Mountain Point's and Hidden Valley's case.
Why does my child have to go to high school in Riverton?
Bluffdale doesn't yet have its own comprehensive high school, so Riverton High serves the city. It's a short drive for most Bluffdale neighborhoods, but definitely worth factoring in if a short commute to school matters to you.
Will Bluffdale get its own high school eventually?
Given how quickly the city has grown, it's a fair question to ask, and one I keep an eye on through Jordan District's planning updates since it could affect boundaries and property values down the road.
Buying a home in Bluffdale almost always means weighing acreage and privacy against school commute times, which is really the same trade-off I write about in Living in Bluffdale, Utah. If you'd like help thinking that through for your family, I'm happy to talk it out.
